Firefox: The Basics

Today I'm back with an introduction article about Firefox, I'm going to write a quick brief about Firefox history, the main features, and what's special about it..

Introduction

Mozilla Firefox is a free web-browser developed by Mozilla Corporation and a large network of contributers around the world, It's a cross-platform open source software which runs under many platforms Like Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Firefox is getting more popular & popular everyday, there are many running projects to spread the word of Firefox, I'd like to mention one of the main projects for spreading firefox it's spreadfirefox.com which was founded by Asa Dotzler & Blake Ross.

History of Firefox

Firefox was firstly developed by two guys who were working on Mozilla project, These two guys were Dave Hyatt and Blake Ross, Firefox has undergone several name changes, It was firstly titled as Phoenix, then it was replaced by Firebird, then it finally got the name "Firefox", trademark issues were behind the name changes of Firefox.

Firefox Features

Well! If we want to count the features of Firefox with its Add-ons, we'll get an unlimited number of features! But we'll be enough now with the basic features of Firefox, the browser without any add-on installed on it.

Tabbed-browsing

Firefox was the first browser with the built-in tabbed-browsing feature, as we all know that tabbed-browsing means that you can surf more than one website in the same window through tabs.

Live Bookmarks

Firefox also has a built-in Live bookmarks manager so you can easily add & manage RSS feeds through your browser.

Integrated Search

You can search with many search engines and websites through the built-in search feature that enables you to add different search engines to it, Google is enabled by default.

Built-in Anti-phishing System

Firefox let you surf more secure with the built-in anti-phishing system.
Spell Checking

Firefox has a built-in spell checker with English enabled by default, and you can install any other supported language through Mozilla Add-ons center.

Session Restore

Firefox enables you to get back to your last session just before a crash you faced in the browser or in your system.
Pop-up Blocking

Firefox let you surf more easily by blocking the annoying pop-ups, Firefox notifies you when blocking a pop-up window.

Automated Updates

Firefox keeps checking if you're running the latest version of the browser or the add-ons, and notifies you about the new versions once they're out!

Firefox enables you to personalize the browser your way by installing add-ons and adding more search engines or by changing the interface the way you love by installing themes!
At the end the great main feature of Firefox that it's an open-source software that's getting more secure by time and it's getting wider and more variable features by having new add-ons everyday, I once read something about Firefox that I didn't believe at first, but now I'm fully convinced with it, I read that Firefox is highly addictive, you'll love it after couple of days of using it, and you'll feel the passion of Firefox running in your blood after having a good experience with it, You may not believe this now! But with time you'll know that this speech is true, Get Firefox now and take back the web!

Introduction..

Hi!

I'm gladly introducing my new blog.. Firefox As An OS is a blog covers and discusses topics about how to get the most from your browser! It will discuss features of Firefox, and it will discuss reviews about Web 2.0 API's! If you're asking why I chose Firefox as the browser! as we all know that Firefox has so many great features. It's safe, Fast, and the main feature that it's an open source browser.. Firefox also greatly meets the web standards .. So you can run many Web 2.0 websites perfectly on it.

The 2nd reason why I chose Firefox is that Firefox has many Add-ons that help you browse more easily, you can also integrate many Web 2.0 applications and websites with Firefox through the Add-ons related to their websites and applications.. For e.g you can integrate Twitter with Firefox through the Twitbin extension that helps you update your status on Twitter more easily.. another e.g you can integrate Facebook with Firefox by installing Facebook Toolbar for Firefox so you can be up-to-the-minute with your friends updates, you can also be notified about the new pokes, messages and friend request on your account..

There will be many interesting topics to talk about here! there will be topics about the basics of Firefox too! So the new people to Firefox will take the advantage and know the great features beyond Firefox..

Hope that I'll be able to deliver you knowledge about what's going on the web!

Yazan a.k.a Firefoxian
